Collection: THE JOYS OF MUSIC EDUCATION - OLD SCHOOL SERIES

A collection dedicated to the survivors of old-school music education, exploring the absurdities, contradictions, humour, frustrations, and emotional realities experienced by generations of music students.

Within these works live professors who mistake judgement for teaching, parents chasing their own unfulfilled dreams through their children, students struggling with technical problems nobody ever properly explained, and countless other stories familiar to generations of musicians.

Too often, students were expected to somehow know what had never been clearly taught. Instead of searching for ways to communicate knowledge, some teachers chose criticism, intimidation, and endless declarations of talent or the lack of it.

Yet behind these paintings are stories about people who came seeking beauty through music and instead found self-doubt, shame, guilt, and endless questioning rather than understanding, guidance, and support.

Each work captures a different corner of that world. Some are tragic. Some are absurd. Some are darkly humorous. All are inspired by realities that many musicians know far too well.

The collection continues to grow, because there are still many stories left to tell.
