STAR | EXISTENTIAL OBSERVATIONS

STAR is an original acrylic painting from Margarita Ceko’s EXISTENTIAL OBSERVATIONS series, exploring the stories we construct around other people before we know anything about them.

A woman floats at the centre of a resort pool, completely absorbed in rest. Around her, appetite, pleasure, curiosity and observation unfold at once: pizza, champagne, cocktails, bodies, glances. The scene is humorous, but the question beneath it is psychological. What do we think we know about a person from the way they look, rest, eat, occupy space or appear to relate to their own body?

STAR turns the act of looking back onto the viewer. Confidence, excess, freedom, beauty, discipline, self-acceptance, indulgence and judgment can all appear in the same image depending on who is looking. The painting leaves the biography unresolved and makes the observer’s reaction part of the work.

Painted on the Gold Coast, Australia, the work combines contemporary figurative painting, social observation and Margarita Ceko’s characteristic humour, using soft resort colours against sharp black, pink and orange accents.
