PLUMBER’S CRACK | EXISTENTIAL OBSERVATIONS

Across countries, cultures and nationalities, one phenomenon persists.

While builders, plumbers, fathers, providers and hardworking men bend over the tasks that keep the world functioning, humanity cannot help but notice. Rarely discussed, widely recognised and remarkably international, the plumber’s crack has become one of those constants of everyday life.

PLUMBER’S CRACK turns that familiar observation into a portrait of the moment when clothing designed to cover fails precisely when its wearer is least concerned with appearance. The humour sits alongside affection for the working body and the person absorbed in getting the job done.

Part of EXISTENTIAL OBSERVATIONS, the work gives a universally recognised fragment of ordinary life the scale and permanence of a painted subject.
